The new site is alive... (old article, moved from Blog)  (United States)

Originally published in the Blog on 12/17/2007. I've decided to discontinue the Blog feature on this site and place any good blog articles here: MichaelKizer.com

I've finally put up the new Fugazi Designs website. I've had the domain for quite some time but never got around to it and decided that this would be a good time to explore the new version of DotNetNuke (a web application framework). I had used DotNetNuke (DNN) to build a quick website solution for my day job a few years ago, but hadn't really explored it much since then. I had been exploring various Content Management Systems (CMS), portals and frameworks that I could use to start building websites a little more efficiently. All of the solutions that I looked at were aimed at Unix hosted websites (since hosting on that platform is ubiquitous and very inexpensive), which is odd since my career background is very Windows-centric.

A few of the Unix based solutions looked very interesting (Ruby on Rails, Joomla, Drupal, etc.), but I thought it might be a good time to leverage my career expertise and explore the Windows hosted options. Immediately DNN came to mind and I began exploring the latest version. The DNN team has done a great job in creating and updating this framework, and I really like the future direction that they seem to be going with it.

So, I jumped in and started exploring it by creating this site. It all came together rather quickly and I'm pretty happy with the results. Now, it is time to start tackling a much larger project using DNN which should be fun.

For those interested in exploring DNN, I recommend combing through the documentation at their website (www.dotnetnuke.com) as well as the community forums. I usually like to have a good technical book as well as online documentation and I definitely recommend the following:

Professional DotNetNuke 4: Open Source Web Application Framework for ASP.NET 2.0 (Programmer to Programmer)

If you are looking to host your own DNN site, I highly recommend 3Essentials Hosting. They are inexpensive, offer great packages and have wonderful customer service. Click on my referal link below if you are interested:
